When a bank issues a secured loan, an appraiser inspects the asset — an apartment, a car, equipment — studies the market and prepares a valuation report. The lending decision depends on this report, so both the speed and the quality of the appraisal matter.
ForteBank needed a single system for all of this work: a report is completed from a template, goes through review and is exported as a finished document, while managers see how the appraisal team performs in each branch.
Task
Speed up asset appraisal and improve report quality. Bring report completion, review and approval into a single system and give managers data on the performance of appraisers and branches, so that decisions rely on solid information.
How a report moves through the system
- Completion. The appraiser selects a report type — there are 12 in the system: real estate, filling stations, vehicles, equipment and others — and fills it in. Client data is pulled from government databases by IIN or BIN, the address from the Kazakhstan address register, and the map location from Yandex Maps.
- Review. The completed report goes to a curator or supervisor. They make corrections, send the report back for revision or approve it. Reports reviewed by a curator are additionally checked by a head office curator.
- Export. The approved report is exported to PDF and moves on into the bank’s workflow.
Deadlines and team rating
Each report has targets: a completion deadline and other key metrics. Deadlines are counted in working days according to Kazakhstan’s official working calendar. These metrics make up each participant’s rating and their contribution to the team’s work.
The director sees the metrics of all employees and branches in charts and tables. This shows everyone’s strengths and weaknesses, and decisions on task allocation, training and team motivation are based on data.
Roles and access
What a user sees and can do in the system depends on their role. An appraiser creates and edits reports but does not approve them — only curators and supervisors approve reports or send them back for revision. Only a few key roles can create reports, which reduces the risk of unauthorised access and data changes.
- Director — responsible for the function as a whole and its resources, sees the metrics of the entire team and all branches.
- Branch director — manages the branch’s appraisers and makes sure tasks are completed on time.
- Curator — reviews reports and the quality of appraisers’ work, gives recommendations.
- Head office curator — reviews reports after the curator.
- Supervisor — reviews reports and task completion, and sometimes carries out appraisals.
- Appraiser — inspects assets and prepares reports.
Integrations
- Government databases. Once an IIN or BIN is entered, individual or legal entity data is filled in automatically — the appraiser does not need to enter it manually.
- Kazakhstan address register (KATO). The asset address is selected from the register.
- Yandex Maps. The asset’s location on the map, based on the address.
- Working calendar. Kazakhstan’s working days, used for each report’s deadlines.
- National Bank of Kazakhstan. Exchange rates.
- Bank single sign-on. Employees log in with the same username and password as in the bank’s other systems.
- Bank’s vehicle collateral system. Data on pledged vehicles.
Result
Today it is ForteBank’s core system for managing collateral. We launched it in 2023 and continued developing it in 2024–2026, adding new features.
What it gave the bank is a single system for collateral appraisal, from report completion to a finished PDF:
- appraisal is faster: reports are completed from templates, and client data, addresses and exchange rates are filled in automatically;
- reports are of higher quality: each one is reviewed by a curator or supervisor;
- finished reports are always at hand for lending decisions;
- managers see the deadlines and quality of work of every appraiser and branch and rely on this data in decisions on team motivation and development.
